Week 12 of 52 : Crossed Ankles Futomomo
This week we're featuring a simple and versatile tie that completes easily with a single 8m rope. It has worked well for us in seated positions, and while lying on one side, and also as the basis of a hogtie that does not require a line to hold the ankles back; the futomomo style tie combined with the crossed ankles takes care of that. :-)
The crossed ankles tie is almost exactly the same technique we described in our earlier photo-a-week post, Crossed Double Column Tie.
As the working end of the rope exits the crossed double-column tie, we form a very simple futomomo style tie with a double-wrap around upper thigh and shin.
The working end can exit in either direction, in our method it depends whether your partner is in front of you or you are leaning back, cradled against his body. The end result is the same, just be aware of directionality and follow the natural flow of the rope. In this case (on the sofa and the hubby kneeling in front) the wrap leads around the shin.
A simple friction punctuates the tie and you form a cinch with the outer wraps, tying off on the inner side close to the ankles.
I have no idea if this style has a specific name - please do leave a comment if you know. I do think it's a very useful technique, being extremely restrictive (especially in a hogtie) and yet it's quite supportive and I find it is comfortable enough to maintain the position without undue discomfort.

This is something we arrived at independently from other building blocks, but I'm sure it must be a common and very popular floor technique.

The rope we're using is Okinawa Jute rope from Esinem-Rope.
Next week we'll take this technique and turn it into a very effective hogtie. I find a legs crossed hogtie more comfortable than with knees together, and this technique achieves that position automatically.
